Types of Products

Products are means of selling access to content, whether it be a user grouping, protected folder, or newsletter.

Products can be assigned to registration forms, which requires that a user buy to register, or can be purchased directly through the cart catalog. If used in combination with a subscription product, this allows you to sell subscriptions to your website.

Content Access Grantors

When creating a product, you have the option to select protected folders, user groupings, and newsletters which will be added to the users account using a scheduled expiration.

In the case of a subscription product, access to the content will renew for as long as the subscription is active.

Volume Discounting

Volume discounting allows you to establish pricing "tiers". Each tier can have its own discounted rate. If a user adds a quantity of the product that falls within a tier, all of the units added will receive the discount.

Note that you do not have to create a tier for full price. Only create tiers if you plan on discounting larger volumes of a product.

Presume you have a product that costs $100 at full price. You then set up the following volume tiers:

Qty LowQty HighDiscount %

Now presume the user adds the following quantity of the product into his/her cart:

Qty AddedTotal PriceApplicable Tier

Notice how the low number is used by the program to determine the tier, meaning that the high number is not inclusive.

Deprecated Products

If you wish to stop selling a product, but you do not want to delete it (as this would remove the product reference in your sales logs), you can deprecate it instead.

A deprecated product will not appear in the cart catalog and can never be purchased. However it remains in the database to make statistics and sales logs more accurate.
