Using the CIM to Store Credit Cards

The Authorize.net module gives you the option to use the Content Information Manager (CIM) to store credit cards remotely on the Authorize.net servers rather than locally on your servers.

To use this feature you first need to sign up for the CIM from your Authorize.net account.

Once you are signed up, simply do the following to activate the feature:

  1. Click on "Cart
  2. Select "Authorize.Net" as your Gateway
  3. Deactivate the Store Cards Locally? setting.
  4. Save the changes.

The program will proceed to create two custom fields in your database:

  • authnet_profile_id
  • authnet_payment_id

Do not ever delete these! They contain the vital information that the program uses to communicate which credit card to charge when a user's subscription renews.

Common Issues

Payments won't process

Ensure that cURL is working on your servers. You will need to contact your web hosting provider to test the feature's functionality.

  1. This allows for on-site transactions without the user having to leave your website.
  2. Meaning that the user will not have to manually re-submit payment when their subscription is due.
  3. If not available, you will need to manually cancel a user's account when a subscription lapses.
  4. This can be accomplished using the Authorize.net CIM.
